ISLAMABAD - Six major generals of the Pakistan Army have been promoted to the rank of lieutenant general, media wing of the military announced Wednesday.
In a tweet, DG Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) directorate, Major General Babar Iftikhar, said those promoted include Major General Akhtar Nawaz, Major General Sardar Hassan Azhar Hayat, Major General Asif Ghafoor, Major General Salman Fayyaz Ghani, Major General Sarfraz Ali and Major General Muhammad Ali.
According to the ISPR, newly-promoted Lt Gen Muhammad Abdul Aziz has been posted Commander Lahore Corps, Lt Gen Muhammad Waseem Ashraf Commander Multan Corps, Lt Gen Nadeem Ahmed Anjum Commander Karachi Corps, Lt Gen Khalid Zia Commander Bahawalpur Corps, Lt Gen Sarfraz Ali Commander Southern Command and Lt Gen Muhammad Ali has been posted as Commander ASFC.
Similarly, Lt Gen Majid Ehsan has been posted as Inspector General Arms, Lt Gen Syed Muhammad Adnan as Inspector General Training & Evaluation, Lt Gen Sardar Hassan Azhar Hayat has been appointed Military Secretary and Lt Gen Asif Ghafoor as Inspector General Communication & Information Technology.
The approval for promotions was given in a promotion board meeting held at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, presided over by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
Gen Asif Ghafoor, who is among those promoted, has previously served as ISPR Director General. He had replaced Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa in December 2016. Earlier this year, Maj Gen Babar Iftikhar had replaced Gen Ghafoor as the new head of the military’s media wing.
