DUBAI The wife of former Pakistani cricket team captain Wasim Akram has died in an Indian hospital on Sunday after heart and kidney complications. Huma Akram, 42, was admitted to hospital in Chennai last Tuesday after her condition deteriorated in an air ambulance while being flown from the Pakistani city of Lahore to Singapore for treatment. Wasim Akram, a former Pakistan captain, was at her bedside for the last five days. The couple had two children. The hospital authorities refused to confirm whether Huma had three tumours in the brain, however, Bajwa, the husband of Humas friend Sahar Fareed, said, What we understand is that Huma had only two weeks illness and she has passed away. Sobbing friend could not utter more words thereafter. Huma was very close to her both sons Taimur and Akbar. She used to take care of her sons because Wasim had to be on commentary assignments outside Pakistan most of the time, the husband of Humas friend and also the family friend, preparing to leave for Karachi, said from Lahore. She was a great mother and both sons used to have lots of fun with her. Both his sons are now in Karachi, where Humas parents (Humayaun Mufti) and Wasim Akrams a few relatives are staying, he further said. The sad news to the children were conveyed by their grand-parents. Huma was not only a good mother for her two sons but she was a good paternal psychologist for many and therefore many parents would miss her now. The Namaz-e-Janaza of Huma Wasim, the deceased wife of former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram will be held on Monday at Jamia Masjid DD, Phase 4 DHA at 2:30 p.m. The body is expected to arrive early in the morning and Janaza will start from his residence at 64-Z DHA, Lahore. The burial will be held in Lahore where the body will arrive. The last prayers will be performed at DD Block Mosque in Defence area, Lahore, it was learnt.
