Indomitably brave

Kashmir Black Day was observed to protest against illegal Indian occupation of Indian troops on Oct. 27, 1947, some six decades back and it converted a beautiful valley of the world into a bleeding landscape of the region. Thousands of motivated Kashmiri came out on the roads against the presence of security forces in Kashmir. A number of Kashmirs were shot down and many got injured in the clashes with Indian security forces in Srinagar, Baramullah and other towns of the valley. Nonetheless, the brave Kashmiris took to the streets and held big demonstrations against Indian forces. The leaders were put under arrest, and stopped from leading the processions. However, the Kashmiris determination to oust the Indians has increased with the passage of time. The present uprising, which started in July has already resulted into the loss of over one hundred Kashmiri youth. This indigenous struggle led by the Kashmiri youth has shaken the corridors of power in India and has pricked the conscience of international community. Indians will not be able to suppress Kashmiri movement through the use of force. It will be in the interest of India herself to honor her commitment made at UN. New Delhi must study the actual cause of Kashmir movement instead of using security forces to control the freedom movement criminally. The world and the UN must pressure India to stop ongoing atrocities. The only workable option is the plebiscite option to allow the Kashmiri people to decide their fate. South Asia today faces the risk of a nuclear war owing to this crisis. World powers should play their role in immediately resolving the conflict in line with the UNSC resolutions. MUZAMMIL MUJAHID BHATTI, Rawalpindi, October 24.
