KARACHI - In reaction against two-day weekly holidays announced by the government for energy conservation initiative, Chairman All Karachi Tajir Ittehad Atiq Mir has slammed the decision saying the move was causing a loss of millions of rupees to traders on weekends, mainly due to closure of banks. Talking to a delegation of small traders at his office on Tuesday, he said despite taking a decision of two-day weekly holidays, neither any let-up in power outages could be observed nor electricity could be preserved. He said the initiative for preservation of electricity had completely been failed and also causing huge loss to the national exchequer. He said trade activities were directly affected due to closure of banks on Saturdays and Sundays, bringing a loss of Rs 500-600 million on weekly basis. He demanded of the government to revert its decision as it had entirely been failed to serve its purpose.
