ISLAMABAD - Auditor General of Pakistan, Akhtar Buland Rana, called on Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani here Tuesday during which the Prime Minister said that autonomy of the office of the auditor general must be ensured, which was critical to meet the imperatives of accountability and transparency in the governance targeted to fight corruption. The Prime Minister said that the Auditor General was accountable to the Parliament. The Prime Minister said that it was for the first time in the history of Pakistan that autonomy had been given to the office of the auditor general enabling it to discharge its constitutional responsibilities with freedom as enshrined in the Constitution.
