OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE - Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif presided over a meeting on Tuesday, which reviewed in detail the matters regarding activation of Institute of Public Health, and directed that it should be made completely autonomous. Member Provincial Assembly Dr. Saeed Elahi, Chairman of the Planning & Development Department, secretaries of Health, Finance and Agriculture departments and experts were present. Chairman Planning & Development gave a detailed briefing regarding reorganization of the department. Addressing the meeting, he said that while formulating recommendations for reorganization of the department, it should be kept in view that the institute should be completely autonomous and its head should have the highest professional abilities. He said that training, research and development and surveillance of diseases should be given key importance in the institute. The chief minister said that an advertisement should also be floated for the selection of the head of the institute and in addition to government departments, top professionals in the market should also be eligible to apply and the selection committee should select the most suitable candidate to head the institute. He directed Chairman Planning & Development to finalize the plan for the reorganization of the institute and submit it within next couple of days. Ex-MPAs join N: Three former members of the Punjab Assembly on Tuesday joined the PML-N, expressing their complete confidence in the leadership of Mian Nawaz Sharif. Mian Mumtaz Ahmad and Masood Ahmad from Rahim Yar Khan and Chaudhry Saeed Ahmad Gujjar from Sahiwal called on Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif here on Tuesday and announced to join the party. Opposition Leader in National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Senior Advisor Sirdar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa and Advisor Raja Ishfaq Sarwar were also present on the occasion. The new entrants into Muslim League-N said that Pakistan was facing serious threats and was beset with internal and external conspiracies. They said that Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was the only leader who was capable of countering all problems and crises, and therefore, everyone was looking towards him. They commended the efforts of Khadim-e-Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif for the progress of the province and prosperity of people and expressed the resolve that they will serve the masses as ordinary Muslim League workers under party leadership.
