OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE Lahore High Court Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry on Tuesday directed the government to set up a task force to monitor steps put in place against corruption by 'Patwaris and their accomplices in the Revenue Department. Hearing cases against corruption by some patwaris of Mandi Bahauddin, the court also directed the Punjab Government to set up a task force in a manner that it performs as a watchdog at the level of every district to prevent corruption by patwaris. The honourable judge got visibly moved when he heard about the large scale corruption by the patwaris during the process of issuing of fard, mutation of land etc. The court learnt about certain patwaris who received bribe in millions. For the Punjab Government, Additional Advocate General, Muhammad Hanif Khatana informed the court that 14 of them had been dismissed on corruption charges while 19 more were suspended. The court on it remarked that the authorities should restore the suspended ones by the next date of hearing and added that the court wanted effective steps to curb corruption for all time to come.
