OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE For the first time since it launched a ruthless strike in the City some two and a half months ago, the dengue virus killed one person in a day. The new victim on Tueasday was identified as the 16-year-old Muhammad Zuhaib, who died at Mayo Hospital. The deadly virus has, however, sent hundreds of more in Lahore to go to hospitals for preliminary tests. As many as 258 new cases were also confirmed to have contacted the virus. Zohaib belonged to the Paniwala Talab area. Out of 258 new dengue cases, 35 were tested positive at Mayo Hospital, 34 at Services Hospital, 26 at Jinnah Hospital, 20 each at Lahore General Hospital and Institute of Public Health, 19 at Childrens Hospital, 17 at Sheikh Zayed Hospital and 06 at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital while 81 were reported from other public sector hospitals and private healthcare centres in the City. According to the Punjab Health Department, one dengue patient died at Mayo Hospital, taking deaths in Punjab to 277 including 244 in Lahore. As many as 169 confirmed dengue cases have been reported in Punjab including 137 in Lahore. Thus total number of dengue patients in the province have reached 19119 out of which, 16231 are from Lahore. So far 18835 dengue patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals in Punjab including 16091 in Lahore. At present 1036 dengue patients are under treatment in different hospitals of the province, out of which, 871 are in Lahore. As many as 309 dengue patients have been cured and discharged from various hospitals of Lahore during the last 24 hours out of which 110 are from Mayo Hospital, 58 from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, 54 from Lahore General Hospital, 51 from Services Hospital, 16 from Mian Munshi Hospital, 15 from Jinnah Hospital and 05 from Childrens Hospital. Briefing the newsmen at committee room of KEMU, Secy Health Jehanzeb Khan said the govt would not allow hoarding and overcharging of medicines.
