Pakistan Railways announced compensation worth Rs. 500,000 for the bereaved family of the departments pensioner who died during a sit-in staged in front of a railway carriage in protest against of non-payment of pension even after 25 days. Mehmood Khan, 65, was resident of Faisal Park Harbanspura. During the protest, he fainted after receiving a heart attack at 8am. He was rushed to hospital; however, he passed away. Mehmoods bereaved family comprising his three children held Pakistan Railways responsible for the death. Federal Railways Minister Ghulam Ahmed Bilour announced relief worth Rs. 500,000 for the bereaved family of Mehmood Khan, reported a private TV channel. Another former employee of Pak Railways Jaffer Hussain could not put up the starvation and lost consciousness. Following the mishaps, announcement was made to keep the bank open for 24 hours, according to National Bank Manager Ehsan. Pakistan Railways pensioners took to protest after they were not reimbursed their pensions even after 25 days. They staged a sit-in in front of a railway carriage. These pensioners say they have nothing at home to eat; accordingly, they will not go home.
