There is an imperative need for a public relations department within the police, which would work towards bridging the gap between the police and the community. So far no sincere efforts have been made in this regard from any side, while the divide and distrust within the common populace for the police has been increasing. The perception even on the media regarding the police mostly paints a negative perspective. It is important that after establishing a public relations department, the image of the police should be improved and the department should gauge the local public opinion in the area of each police station.
