OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE - The Government College University Philosophy Department has organised a condolence reference in the memory of the late Prof Shahid Hussian, a renowned philosopher and prolific writer, and paid tribute to the commendable services that he rendered during his 40-year stay at the varsity. GCU VC Prof Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman chaired the reference while noted analyst Dr Mehdi Hassan, philosopher Mirza Ather Baig, physicist Prof Dr Zakria Butt, Dr Sajid and the wife and son the late Prof Shahid Hussain were also present. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Khaleeq-ur-Rahman said that Dr Shahid was a man of commitment and the university would follow the great traditions set by him as the head of GC Philosophy Department. Dr Mehdi Hassan said that Pakistan needs philosophers like Prof Shahid as, We are living in cultural, ideological and philosophical vacuum. He said that science was necessary for the development of a country, but social sciences and liberal arts were crucial for making a group of people a civilized nation. Mirza Ather Baig shed light on research and creative work of Prof. Shahid. A large number of students of the late Prof Shahid Hussian also attended the condolence reference.
