Rs221.3m disbursed among 18 towns

KARACHI – Karachi Metropolitan Corporation claimed to have finalised comprehensive arrangements for disposing of animal offal during the holidays of Eidul Azha.The KMC had paid the property tax share amounting rupees 221.3 million to all the 18 towns to enable them to make better arrangements for removal of offal and maintenance of cleanliness during Eidul Azha.The administration have finalised two major dumping points for offals located at Jam Chakro, Super Highway and Yousuf Goth, Northern Bypass. After collecting from their jurisdiction, Towns Municipal Administrations (TMAs) will shift the offal to main dumping points.KMC Administration already comprises several teams to monitor lifting and disposal of offal and cleaning work in different areas of the city during Eidul Azha.Spokesperson of KMC Ali Hassan Sajid told The Nation that an estimated 1.5 million animals would be slaughtered in the city as at least 940879 offal were buried last year.He said the KMC had finalised all arrangements for 18 towns of the city with help of town administrations to immediately get rid of the animal offal to keep the city clean during and after Eid. Sajid informed that officers and workers associated with the KMC and town administrations along with thousands of vehicles and machines would have been progress during the operation across the city. All of them will be on roads during Eid to ensure swift lifting and disposal of offal, he added.He said at least 700 employees and around 100 machinery and vehicles of KMC along with town staff and vehicles would take part in the operation. He said a number of private pickup vehicles have also hired to make the operation successful.On the occasion, town-wise spray had been arranged by the health department of KMC and Town Municipal Administrations, under the plan, 66 vehicles are carrying out the spray work in 18 towns for four days.According to a statement, the Administrator Karachi directed to keep all the concerned departments active and perform this important duty in an excellent manner.He said due to huge number of sacrifices of animals, large scale arrangements for maintenance of cleanliness and lifting and disposal of offal and waste was required in all the three days of Eid. The KMC would provide additional machinery and vehicles to towns for this purpose and all the city wardens would be on duty during Eidul Azha.He also appealed to the citizens of Karachi to cooperate with the town administration to ensure cleanliness during Eid-ul-Azha in their areas.
