KARACHI - A former union council Nazim among six people were gunned down in separate incidents of target killing here on Friday.

A former nazim of Orangi Town union council namely Akram Saeed, 45, was shot dead at Muhajir Square, Orangi Town.

Police said the victim was returning his home after offering Jumma prayers when at least two unidentified armed riders shot him dead and fled. Police shifted the body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy and later handed over to heirs. The victim was also allegedly involved in a murder case and recently released from jail on bail. Further investigation was underway.

In the jurisdictions of Baghdadi police station, two motorcyclists Afzal Aziz and Abdul Qadir were gunned down in an armed attack by four armed riders at Mir Muhammad Baloch Road, Lyari. Police said the victims were the workers of Peoples Amn Committee, Lyari. It suspected that Lyari gangster group of Baba Ladla can be involved in the dual murder. The bodies were moved to Civil Hospital for postmortem and later handed over to their family.

Separately, a man namely Ameen Gujjar was shot dead in Mehmodabad No 6. Police said the victim was sitting at a Pan Shop when some unidentified culprits shot him dead and escaped. Police believed personal enmity the motive behind the incident.

Site-B Section police have found a bullet-riddled body of a youth near Darbar Square in Site area. Police said some unidentified assailants after kidnapping him, shot him twice and later threw his body at an abandoned place. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital for completing medicolegal formalities. The victim was identified as Shakeel Amed, resident of Phool Patti Lane, Lyari. Police has yet to be ascertained the motive behind the murder.

In the jurisdictions of Orangi Town police station, a man namely Abdul Saeed was gunned down due to aerial firing in a wedding ceremony near Football Chowrangi, Orangi Town. Police said the victim was a guest at the ceremony. Police have failed to arrest the culprit involved.

RS4.4M KARACHI BANK HEIST

Robbers looted over Rs4.4 million from a private bank branch in Shadman area on Friday morning.

According to SHO Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan police station, Tariq Mehmood, a group of at least eight armed robbers barged into the bank at Shadman Town No 2 at around 10:00 am and made the bank staffers, customers and security guards hostage.

They completed their swift operation within 15 minutes. They took away 4.4 million rupees and two repeater guns of the security guards, he added.    

The police have started investigations after a case was registered on the complaint of branch manager, Zakir Siraj. It is pertinent to mention here that it is the fourth bank robbery within a month.

10 COPS DISMISSED ON PUBLIC COMPLAINTS

At least 10 police personnel of District East of the City were dismissed from their service in result of a departmental inquiry, establishing their working in collusion with drug dens across the City.

According to sources, District East Deputy Inspector General Munir Ahmed Shaikh had approved the findings of the inquiry committee.

The committee was headed by East district SSP Pir Muhammad Shah, tasked with conducting investigations against suspended personnel.

On September 25, around 39 East District personnel were suspended and departmental inquiry was instituted against them for what DIG Shaikh termed “their involvement in corrupt practices, including extortion and receiving bribes from drug dens as complained by the citizens.”
