ISLAMABAD  -  President Mamnoon Hussain has said that a just and lasting resolution of Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the United Nations was essential for durable peace and development in the region.
In his message on the occasion of United Nations Day marked on October 24 the President said that the United Nations is an ideal forum to galvanize global action on key priorities ranging from human rights to development and climate change. He said this was an occasion to reaffirm our abiding commitment to the purposes and principles of the United Nations.
He said the United Nations had a key role in promoting pacific settlement of disputes and upholding the right to self-determination of the peoples under alien domination and foreign occupation.
The President said Pakistan believed that a just and lasting resolution of Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the United Nations was essential for durable peace and development in the region.
As a leading troop contributor to UN Peacekeeping over the decades, the President said Pakistan had made substantive contribution to the United Nations’ efforts in carrying out its primary responsibility for maintenance of international peace and security.
Pakistani peacekeepers have served with distinction and professionalism in some of the most challenging conditions, to help maintain and build peace and restore hopes of millions affected by conflict around the world. 142 Pakistani blue helmets have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving under the UN flag.
