UNITED NATIONS - United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has condemned the bombing of a Muharram procession in Jacobabad, and the recent terrorist attack in Balochistan, and called for bringing those responsible to justice. “The Secretary-General reiterates that nothing justifies terrorism.–SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT

He urges Pakistan to take all necessary measures to bring to justice the perpetrators of these despicable acts and to do its utmost to protect its citizens, including all minorities,” a statement issued by his spokesperson said in New York.

The statement added that the attacks were carried out during the holy month of Muharram and have reportedly left over 40 dead, including many children.

The Secretary-General extended his condolences to the families of the victims and wishes the injured a swift recovery.

Nearly a dozen personnel across the country within past few months have seen the same fate.

Unarmed and without any regular police training, traffic constables were later given automatic rifles, pistols and bulletproof vests for self-defence but only in the badly-hit province of Sindh.

However, the move has not shown to be effective as attackers are still finding traffic policemen a soft target since they are busy in traffic management at crowded intersections amid hundreds of vehicles.
