Hunger strike against relocation of bridge enters 30th day

Kandhkot :  Hunger strike against the relocation of Ghotki-Kandhkot bridge entered into its 30th day here on Wednesday.

A large number of members of political parties, social activists, traders and others are on a hunger strike at Library Chowk near Tower roundabout for the last 30 days.

Speaking to the protestors, Abdul Ghani Bijarani, Hafiz Nasrullah Aziz, Sajjad Ahmed Brohi, Bashir Ahmed Mirani, Sher Mohammed and others said that the bridge had been relocated under the pressure of local politicians and feudal lords, and that the relocation would not benefit anyone; rather it would cause massive flooding. They demanded from Sindh chief minister, provincial minister for planning and development, minister for works and services and other concerned officials to restore the bridge to its old location; otherwise the protest would be prolonged.

It is reminded here that earlier the bridge was to connect Kandhkot to Ghotki via Qadirpur, while now it is to be built between two small villages, Gouspur and Gemro.

Mostly bridges are built to connect two cities instead of two villages to reduce the distance as well as to improve economic and social activities.

It is also worth mentioning here that Kandhkot-Ghotki bridge was also to link district Kashmore with CPEC route via Sukkur, but now due to its relocation this objective may not be achieved.
