Mahvish shines in SN Clay Court Tennis

ISLAMABAD -  Former national ladies champion Mahvish Chishtie has shown glimpses of her brilliant past, when she defeated fifth seed Khunsa Babar in ladies singles second round match of the Subh-e-Nau National Clay Court Tennis Championship here at Senator Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex on Wednesday.

Mahvish, mother of two, left playing national level tennis in 2005 after representing Pakistan several times in Federation Cup and Islamic Games and won laurels for the country. In ladies singles second round match, Mahvish played against young Khunsha Babar, which lasted for more than 3 hours and in the end, Mahvish emerged as winner by 7-5, 7-5. She will now face Ushna Suhail in quarterfinals, who defeated Shahida Badshah in a one-sided encounter. Sara Mansoor, Shimza Tahir, Sara Kiani, Alina Aftab, Esha Jawad and Sarah Mahboob also won their respective matches to move into the quarterfinals.

Fifth seed Muzammil Murtaza stunned third seed Heer Ashiq in men’s singles quarterfinals after a hard-fought contest. Muzammil won first set 6-3 but Heera bounced back to take second set 6-0, however, in the third and decisive set, Muzammil played brilliantly and win it 6-2 and set up semifinal clash against M Abid, who defeated Muzammil’s elder brother Mudassar in another well-contested match.

Top seed Aqeel Khan continued his journey towards another title with an easy win over Usman Rafique. Aqeel will be up against Ahmed Ch in semifinal, who won his match against Abdal Haider. Pair of Aqeel/Heera entered the men’s doubles semifinals by beating Abdul Rehman/Ahmed Babar while pair of Muzammil/Mudassar, Abid/Usman and Ahmed/Abdal also registered victories.

Yousuf Khan, M Shoaib, Huzaifa Abdul Rehman, Hamza bin Rehan and Saqib Umar also won their respective matches of the boys U-18 and moved into the semifinals.
