ISLAMABAD -  Sarfraz XI took sweet revenge of their Test match series against Sri Lanka, as they inflicted whitewash on high-flying Lankan Lions in the five-match One-Day Internationals series at neutral venues of UAE.

It was a morale-boosting win for green caps after highly disappointing two-Test match series loss, which was very first for Pakistan at UAE. The good thing was that Sarfraz learnt quickly form his blunders in the longer version of the game and used his options according to the situation, which paid dividend and the team succeeded in winning the ODI series 5-0.

Sarfraz and company outclassed Lanakns in all departments of the game. The team is now on right path and the time is not far when the young guns will adjust in the longer version of the game as well. Off course, it is never easy to replace big guns like Misbah-ul-Haq and Younus Khan in short span of time, but the likes of Babar Azam, Asad Shafiq and others will learn quickly and with the passage of time, the Test team will also start producing results. The big teams though will give Pakistan tough time to Pakistan, yet it will be in the best interest of the green caps to play against tough opponents and learn quickly.

The way Imam-ul-Haq proved his critics wrong with debut ton shows that the kid is highly talented and can resolve batting woes of green caps, especially in the opening department where Pakistan team had been struggling since long. After being a super flop in the Test matches, Babar Azam bounced back in style and shut his critics’ mouths with consistent performances and centuries. He along with experienced Shoaib Malik gave match-winning performances while Rumman Raees, Shadab Khan, Usman Shinwari and Hasan Ali spearheaded the bowling department.

The only area of concern was out-of-form Ahmed Shahzad, who was a super flop and completely failed to justify his place in the starting XI. Now the team management must carry forward a settled combination and provide more and more opportunities to the younger lot.

The head coach also needs to set aside his personal liking and disliking aside and should provide opportunities to genuine players life Sohail Khan, who deserves better treatment. He is performing in domestic cricket and getting loads of wickets, while same is the case with fast bowler M Asif and batsman Salman Butt, who also need better treatment from the PCB.

Pakistan team must continue the winning momentum in the T20 series. They must not relax and apply same pressure in the Twenty20 Internationals to finish the series on a high note, as complacency can cost the green caps dearly.
