RAWALPINDI - Despite suspension of a number of doctors including Medical Superintendent (MS) Dr Zaman Niazi by Chief Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif on account of poor performance, the doctors and staffers of citys largest Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) did not change their attitude and had completely failed to provide adequate health facilities to the citizens. The BBH is also reeling under a myriad of problems such as absence of senior doctors from their duties, shortage of life-saving medicines especially in Orthopedic Ward, non-equipped laboratories and poor hygienic condition, TheNation has learnt during a survey here on Friday. The attendant of an old patient, admitted in the Orthopedic Ward, told this scribe that they had to conduct tests of arterial blood gases and fat globules urine by three times from outside the hospital as the doctors told them the hospital laboratory staff would give them test reports after nine days whereas outside laboratory staff would provide reports within two hours. He said that the doctors also referred him to a specific laboratory, saying, Go there and give the lab staffers my reference, you will be given special discount, he added. A patient of the same ward, Arshad said that the bone of his thigh had broken while the doctors suggested him an immediate operation. However, in absence of any senior orthopedic specialist in BBH, the operation was being delayed while his pain is increasing with passage of time, he lamented. The patient appealed to the high ups of Punjab government and Health Department to take strict action of the doctors negligence.
