Power crisis may worsen, says Pepco

POWER crisis may take another plunge as the mercury is soaring in the country, reported a private TV channel on Friday, quoting PEPCO officials. The shortfall of 3,000 Megawatts stands unmoved with four to six hours of loadshedding in the country. PEPCO officials said the power demand shot up with the temperature rising, especially the air-conditioners threw the power shortfall beyond 3,000 MW, warning if the situation persists, the shortfall may grew more. The officials said that the power demand was 16,000 MW and its production stood at just 13,000 MW; accordingly, to meet the power shortage, a new schedule of six-hour loadshedding for rural areas and four-hour loadshedding for urban areas has been issued.
