ISLAMABAD - The owner of Inter Risk Private Company, a Pakistan based Security Company, Capt (Retd) Syed Ali Jafar Zaidi, is still at large and his name has not yet been included in the Exit Control List (ECL). Police are still reluctant to arrest him as high officials in the government and influential diplomats are reportedly trying to protect him, sources told TheNation on Friday. The sources claimed that Zaidi was apprehended by police during the raid on September 19 when a number of illegal weapons were recovered from Zaidis residence-cum-office. But he was released immediately after his arrest upon a reported phone call from the Interior Ministry, the sources added. However, concerned police officials categorically denied the arrest of Zaidi. The Interior Ministry spokesperson was not available for comment despite frequent attempts by this scribe. The Company, reportedly, had been hired by the US to provide security at its Embassies and Consulates in South Asian States. But in the guise of Security Company, Zaidi had stored a huge cache of unlicensed sophisticated arms, the sources added. Police had raided the offices of the Inter Risk Company located in F-6/1 last Saturday and arrested Zaidis two servant besides the recovery of huge cache of sophisticated weapons. Police had registered a case against the two servants of the Company and its owner. Police in Islamabad, on Friday, presented both the accused Tauqeer Ahsan and Muhammad Khan before the court and submitted the FIR to the Judge who sent them to the jail. Police source confided to TheNation that some senior police officers and high-ups in the ministry of interior have directed the police not to take action against the main accused Syed Zaidi. A senior police official said that they were conducting raids at the house of Zaidi, but in reality police were just completing a formality. We have directions from our seniors not to arrest Zaidi and wait for the green signal. We have no idea who is directing our seniors to avoid Zaidis arrest otherwise his arrest is no matter for us, he added, requesting anonymity. It should be recalled here that Kohsar police had registered the case against the accused under PPC sections 13/20/65,420, and 471. Talking to TheNation Station House Officer (SHO) of Kohsar Polic, Rana Akram, said, We are conducting raids at the residence of Zaidi and our surveillance guards are present there. He added that the accused would be apprehended soon. He also denied that that there was pressure on them for not arresting the main culprit of the case.
