The government has been defender of the constitution and custodian of the freedom of judiciary, former top lawyer of the government here said. Former attorney general Senator Latif Khosa talking to media here Sunday said that review petition with regard to reopening of the cases has been in pending. He said the Supreme Court's decision with regard to extension in judges tenure was an extraconstitutional decision. The judiciary used the doctrine of necessity in this matter, which was extraconstitutional, he said. Responding to a questioner he said that the Supreme Court could not write directly to the military. Replying a query Senator Khosa said the military's role in the war against terrorism and its help to the flood victims is laudable, still the military is a subordinate institution of the government.
