The Shield is a professional wrestling trio in WWE consisting of Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose. This team made its debut in November 2012 in Survivor Series.
These former NXT members came forward as a group to fight for injustice in the WWE. They have declared this their intention. They are also known as the hounds of justice with a catch phrase of ‘Believe in The Shield’. This trio currently holds two championships at the same time. Dean Ambrose is the United States champion whereas Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns are the WWE tag team champions.
This trio comes to the ring through the WWE universe wearing black protective vests with their ‘Special Op’ entrance theme. This group works with great teamwork and an excellent strategy which enables them to overcome their opponents. The Shield has a series of enemies because of their different style. This trio won their first match at TLC pay per view against the team of Kane, Daniel Bryan and Ryback who was the shield’s target for many days in a table’s ladders and chairs match up. After TLC, this group started to ambush the WWE roster one by one by surrounding the ring leaving no choice for their opponents to surrender. This continued to happen and many wrestlers teamed up to stop The Shield but to no avail. The Shield got their own ways and it leveled each and every single one of them who tried to step in its way.
Seth Rollins who is a member of The Shield was a former NXT champion. He defended his title against Corey Graves as a result of disqualification because Ambrose and Reigns interfered in the match so that Rollins can retain his title. But later on, Rollins had to face Big E Langston in a no disqualification match for the NXT championship. The members of the NXT roster fended the match and as a result, Langston defeated Rollins and became the NXT champ. At Extreme Rules pay per view, Dean Ambrose defeated Kofi Kingston for the United States championship and later that night, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns defeated the team of Kane and Daniel Bryan and became the WWE Tag Team champions.
During these events, The Shield continued its assault on other superstars such as The Rock, John Cena, The Undertaker, Sheamus, Randy Orton and others as well. John Cena, Ryback and Sheamus came forward to put an end to Shield’s madness but they also got defeated at Elimination Chamber by the hounds of justice. There was no one who could stop this trio and the superstars felt a chill in their spine’s when the entrance theme of The Shield played during their matches. The hounds of justice were on the loose. These guys are like the agents of chaos.
Later on, Sheamus joined hands with Randy Orton and The Big show to face The Shield at the biggest main event of the year Wrestlemania 29 but these three also couldn’t stand against the dominance of The Shield and were also beaten. The hounds of justice were un-defeated for nearly seven months but after the hard tiring efforts and struggle of Team Hell No and Randy Orton, The Shield got defeated.
One of the members of The Shield, Roman Reigns was a former Canadian football defensive tackle and belongs to the famous Samoan wrestling family. He is also the cousin of WWE hall of fame and Hollywood star Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. The signature move of Reigns is a spine crushing Spear, Ambrose’s finisher is a headlock driver while Rollin’s finisher is springboard high knee. The combined signature move of them is a triple power bomb.
Now days, The Shield is working for the WWE COO Triple H and is providing aid to Randy Orton against his opponents and also attacks the superstars who talk about Triple H’s regime. At the recent pay per view Night of Champions, Ambrose defeated Ziggler and Rollens and Reigns defeated The Prime Time Players successfully defending their titles. The hounds of justice continue to rolls on. This is the best trio in the history of WWE so far and who knows one of them could quite possibly be the next WWE or World Heavyweight Champion.
