Multan
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif reprimanded police officers for delaying arrest of a rape accused and constituted a high-level three member committee to investigate into the matter as he visited the house of a rape victim here on Thursday. The CM reached Multan on a surprise visit and assured Allah Bakhsh, the father of the victim Shaheena, that besides the accused, all those police officers, who exhibited negligence, would be taken to the task. “I’ll personally pursue the case,” he assured the oppressed family.
Shaheena Bibi, resident of Mauza Alamgeer, attempted suicide against police for not arresting the accused, who allegedly subjected her to sexual assaults. Instead, police registered case against her father. The CM took notice of media reports regarding her suicide attempt and suspended the SP, DSP concerned and SHOs of Muzaffarabad and Qutabpur police stations.
The three member committee is consisted of Commissioner Multan division, RPO Multan range and Additional IG Investigation. The committee will submit its report in 72 hours. The CM also directed the DCO Multan to get the girl admitted to Multan Public School and give her free education.
Earlier, sympathising with the father of the victim girl, the CM said that he came down to Multan to get them justice. He assured them that tyrants could not escape the justice and they would be taken to the task. Referring to a kidnapping case registered against the father of the girl on order of the court, he said that the provincial government would also write a letter to the Chief Justice Lahore High Court to point out flaws in judicial system.
Earlier, the CM summoned the CPO Multan Sultan Chaudhry and sought explanation on delay in registration of case against the accused despite receipt of medical report. The answer given by the CPO that he was busy in flood operation, provoked the CM and he remarked that police also flushed away justice with the flood. He asked the CPO to refrain from making lame excuses.
