70-year-old booked for raping daughter for 20 years

LUDHIANA: Police have booked a 70-year-old man for raping his daughter after drugging her for the past more than 20 years. The accused works in a factory.

The victim, who recorded police statement after being pressed by her stepmother, said the accused started raping her in 1994, when she was all of 16 and after that he raped her many times by sedating her.

She said she got married about 10 years ago, but was later divorced as her husband found her to be too simple. She said even after marriage, her father continued to rape her whenever he found her alone and threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed it to anyone.

The stepmother of the victim told cops that after she saw the accused raping her, she insisted her to inform the police.

Police on Saturday booked the accused under sections 376 (rape), 328 (causing hurt by means of poi son, etc with intent to commit an offence) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.

Investigating officer assistant sub-inspector Des Raj said the accused was on the run and raids were conducted at his home and factory. He said medical examination of the complainant would be conducted in a day or two.

He said the accused married again after his first wife died in 1978. The accused has three daughters (including the complainant) and two sons from his first wife and two daughters from the second.

Police officials said since the victim was in a state of shock and being counselled, her stepmother gathered courage to speak against the accused.
