SIALKOT-The people have to face great difficulties in burial of their deceased ones due to shortage of places for graves in some graveyards here.

There are four ancient and big graveyards in Sialkot city namely Imam Sahib Graveyard, Shah Channan Graveyard, Babul Shaheed Graveyard and Mai Sabira Graveyard that are already full of graves and had no further space for burial of the new ones.

These are centuries old graveyards. Javaid Ali, Sajjada Nasheen of shrine of Hazrat Imam Aliul Haq (RA), expressed grave concern over the critical situation. He said that local business and financial tycoons, elected public representatives always focused on establishing parks and residential colonies and even changing the fate of Sialkot by establishing all the inter-city main roads and Sialkot International Airport by spending billions of rupees on self help basis.

However, he added, they forgot to give proper attention towards the matter of shortage of graveyards in Sialkot. He said that Sialkot Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) and even district administration remain unable to make any proper planning in this regard. Muhammad Yaqub of Harbanspura said that the centuries old graveyards should be expanded. These graveyards had been lying congested since long ago.

These three ancient graveyards were not enough to accommodate the dead bodies. Pir Liaqat Ali Shah, former district attorney, said that all the small and big graveyards, though few in number, had been established by the local people on self help basis on humanitarian grounds but the TMA and even the district administrations had done nothing to expand these graveyards or to establish new ones. He said that the TMA should also chalk out a mega development plan for bringing betterment in the existing poor conditions of these ancient graveyards in Sialkot.

The social, religious and political circles have expressed grave concern over the critical condition and urged the district administration and the provincial government to allocate special places for new graveyards in Sialkot.
