Indian SC refuses hearing on PIL seeking Indus Water Treaty to be declared 'unconstitutional'

The supreme court of India has refused to grant an urgent hearing on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) which sought to declare the Indus Water Treaty as unconstitutional.

A bench comprising of Chief Justice T S Thakur and Justice A M Khanwilkar is reported to have said that keeping politics aside, there is no urgency in the matter and the hearing will be held in due course.

The PIL was filed by advocate ML Sharma who claimed that the Indus Water treaty was unconstitutional, not signed as per the constitutional scheme, and should be declared “void ab initio”
