MANDI BAHAUDDIN- The livestock is the major source of livelihood of the majority of the farming community and a key source to revive the crisis-hit agriculture sector. For the purpose, the Punjab government will offer soft loan to the milkmen for the purchase of motorcycles so that they could easily transport milk from their farms to markets.

This was the crux of speeches made a Milk Conference organised by the Livestock Department. The conference aimed at creating awareness among the farmers about natural milk, its nutritional value and various milk products. Framers from each union council of the district attended the conference wherein Punjab Livestock Secretary Sardar Ashiq Hussain Dogar was the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, the secretary stressed the need for raise awareness among the masses about the importance of hygienic milk in the daily life. He said that Pakistan is fourth largest milk-producing country where 61 percent of milk is obtained from buffaloes.

Mr Dogar also announced loans for the milkmen for purchasing of motorcycles and advised the farmers to transport milk in clean containers. He emphasised the farmers to stop adulteration in milk, saying that veterinary assistants have been posted in all union councils to address farmers complaints. He claimed that adequate stock of medicines is available at veterinary dispensaries which are being provided free of cost.
