LAHORE -  The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and China Gezhouba Group of Companies (CGGP), the contractor of Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Project (NJHPP), actively participated in a rescue operation led by Pakistan Army, following an accident wherein a coaster going from Kel to Muzaffarabad fell into the River Jhelum on September 23 (Friday).

The unfortunate accident occurred due to failure of brakes. Resultantly, the coaster fell down in the river about 500 meters upstream of the under-construction NJHP Dam. 

WAPDA spokesperson said on Sunday that when WAPDA Project authorities at Nauseri site requested for help in rescue operations, CGGC was directed to extend all possible support by providing search lights at the site and other technical assistance. Pakistan Army led the rescue operation with the help of civil administration.

On September 24, in the morning, army and rescue teams reached site of the accident again.  

TheNeelum Jhelum Hydropower Project site staff demanded machinery and other resources which were also promptly provided.

As per the requirement, the CGGC provided a dozer, an excavator and a crane for pulling out the coaster from the river.

The operation was completed on September 24 in afternoon with the active help of Water and Power Development Authority, which, as per instructions of Water and Power Development Authority  high ups, provided all possible assistance.
