Bilawal, Blinken hold high-level talks today

WASHINGTON   -   Foreign Minister Bila­wal Bhutto Zardari ar­rived in the US capital Washington on Sunday evening on a three days official bilateral visit to the United States begin­ning September 26.

Foreign Minister Bila­wal Bhutto would par­ticipate in high-level ministerial level talks between Pakistan and the United States which would be held on Mon­day here. This is the first time that both coun­tries are holding formal high-level talks since the change of the re­gime in Pakistan in April this year. FM Bilawal would first hold a one-on-one meeting with his US counterpart Antony Blinken, and later hold delegation level talks.

Bilawal Bhutto, who would spend three days here, has several other engagements in the US capital including meetings with US congressmen at Capitol Hill. He is also ex­pected to meet several oth­er US officials in Washing­ton. Foreign minister has been invited to two presti­gious think tanks, Wilson Centre and US Institute of Peace where he would de­liver his address, highlight­ing Pakistan position on several regional and global issues. He met his US coun­terpart on the sidelines of the global food security summit held in New York. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met US secretary of state on the sidelines of the UNGA this week. Diplomatic sources in Washington told The Nation that bilateral co­operation between Pakistan and the US in various fields, situation in Afghanistan, Pa­kistan’s position on the Jam­mu and Kashmir dispute and economic and securi­ty matters would come un­der discussion. Reschedul­ing of Pakistan debts is also expected to be discussed during the meeting.
