WASHINGTON - Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari arrived in the US capital Washington on Sunday evening on a three days official bilateral visit to the United States beginning September 26.
Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto would participate in high-level ministerial level talks between Pakistan and the United States which would be held on Monday here. This is the first time that both countries are holding formal high-level talks since the change of the regime in Pakistan in April this year. FM Bilawal would first hold a one-on-one meeting with his US counterpart Antony Blinken, and later hold delegation level talks.
Bilawal Bhutto, who would spend three days here, has several other engagements in the US capital including meetings with US congressmen at Capitol Hill. He is also expected to meet several other US officials in Washington. Foreign minister has been invited to two prestigious think tanks, Wilson Centre and US Institute of Peace where he would deliver his address, highlighting Pakistan position on several regional and global issues. He met his US counterpart on the sidelines of the global food security summit held in New York. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met US secretary of state on the sidelines of the UNGA this week. Diplomatic sources in Washington told The Nation that bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and the US in various fields, situation in Afghanistan, Pakistan’s position on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute and economic and security matters would come under discussion. Rescheduling of Pakistan debts is also expected to be discussed during the meeting.
