PESHAWAR At least eight people were killed and several others injured in a US drone attack in North Waziristan Agency on Monday. Sources informed that the drone targeted a suspected house in Khushal Kaly area of North Waziristan Agency. A missile fired from the drone hit a house, allegedly owned by militants, which resulted in killing of five persons and injuring several others. The injured persons were shifted to a hospital in Meransha where they were provided emergency medical treatment. Soon after the incident, large number of people gathered around the site to contribute in the rescue activities. It has been learnt that the tribal people were reluctant to contribute in rescue activities, as sometimes drone also targeted the rescuers activities and innocent people of the Agency. Moreover, four spy planes kept making low flights in the scattered areas of NWA after the attack. AFP adds: Security officials said three US missiles struck the compound. The target was a militant compound belonging to followers of a local rebel commander Haleem Khan, a senior security official told AFP, asking not to be named. Eight militants were killed and several others sustained injuries in the strike, another security official told AFP. Security officials said most of the dead were militants from the Mehsud tribe in neighbouring South Waziristan, from which top leaders and many foot soldiers in Tehreek-e-Taliban faction are drawn. Officials said that Khan, the local rebel commander, was not among the dead. He is believed to have ties to Taliban-linked Afghan warlord Hafiz Gul Bahadur, who is reputed to control up to 2,000 fighters in the region who stage attacks over the border against foreign forces stationed in Afghanistan.
