PESHAWAR (APP) - Senior minister Khyber-Pakhtun khawa Bashir Bilour on Monday said that the local body elections would be held within a period of six months in the province. Speaking at guest hour programme at Peshawar press club, he said that the local government elections would be held in the Khyber Pakhtunkhawa like other provinces in the country. He said that local body system was considered as foundation for National and Provincial assemblies, adding that there should be no doubt in holding local body elections in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhawa. He said that the provincial government had initiated number of developmental schemes in the province of which some have been completed. He added number of problems would be resolved after the completion of the remaining developmental schemes. In order to improve the traffic system; he said about 11 to 12 underpasses and overhead bridges would be constructed with estimated cost of Rs510 million. He further said that the Peshawar city total population was one million where the five million Afghan refugees were resided during Afghan war. Due to residing of huge population of refugees, he observed that the infrastructure of Peshawar city has been adversely affected but the incumbent ANP-led coalition government in the province took number of initiatives for smooth flow of traffic in the city. Bilour said there were several road expansion projects under consideration in the city. He said the Peshawar city was consider as the city of flowers, would retain its lost identity, adding that the construction of Ghani Khan Park would enhance beauty of the city, where different kinds of flowers would be planted. Same practice would be followed in other parks in the Peshawar city for enhancement its beauty, he added. When asked about the progress of Durani Media colony, he replied that a PC-I had been approved and developmental work would be initiated on the project shortly. He said that the provincial government had planned to construct new township on 20 acres land in Garhi Chandan at Kohat Road. To a another query, he dispelled the impression of any operation in Kaladhaka, saying Frontier Constabulary is carrying action against militants of Malakand and other areas, who taken refuge in the district. He said that Frontier Constabulary would remain deployed till the elimination of militants from the area.
