LAHORE - Provincial Minister for Finance, Planning & Development Tanvir Ashraf Kaira has said that the present government is trying hard to provide maximum relief to the masses, and it is the need of the hour to work on war-footing to overcome price-hike because middle and poor classes are most-affected by that. Talking to media persons at his office here Monday, the Minister said that the energy conservation plan was producing positive results, adding that 500MW electricity was saved within two days. However, he said, new projects of energy should also be put in place besides conversation plan. He said that the government would enhance the funds for Agriculture, Education, Health and Infrastructure sector in the new budget, and would spend more money on public welfare-oriented projects. He also said that the government would not impose any new tax in the upcoming budget but would rationalise the revenue target and base of tax net would be broadened. Kaira informed that the bill of value added tax had been presented in the Punjab Assembly and taking any decision was the prerogative of the Assembly and added that the value added tax was not a new tax but an alternate of the GST. The government was fully committed to resolving problems of the people on priority basis, he concluded.
