LAHORE Government is going to give Lahorites some surprising gifts in the form of 50 international standard sports grounds and establishment of nine more food streets in the City with a view to promote sports for enhancing playing opportunities for the youngsters and for the provision of entertainment facilities to the masses. Initially, the provincial government sought a detailed report from the District Administration within a week and gave them a target of preparation of feasibility reports, identification of suitable sites for the implementation of proposed plan and for the construction of these 50 sports centers and play grounds and nine food streets, each for nine town of the City. This was disclosed by Commissioner Lahore Division Nadeem Hussan Asif in a meeting with the high ranked officers held here on Tuesday. He, for the construction of such 50 sports grounds and establishment of 9 food streets directed District Coordination Officer Ahad Khan Cheema to submit a report within seven days after identifying suitable sites in different vicinities of the City. He told the meeting that such sport grounds would be constructed according to the international standard and also suitable for all type of sports events and sports training program. Out of 50 sports grounds, 5 should be constructed especially for female players only so that they could also get sports training in peaceful atmosphere and safe manners he further directed. The commissioner directed the DCO to consult the elected representatives and locals and respect their proposals in this regard at the time of identification of the sites for play grounds. He said approval of the locals and concerned persons is must before acquiring identified sites, whether the piece of land is owned by any private person or government department. For the purchase of land according to relevant laws, financial support of the rich and cooperation from local well of people could also be sought and requested, he added. Besides this, he said that government would also allocate maximum funds with providing all the essential facilities and staffs on priority basis for the promotion of sports activities in all the vicinities of the City. Regarding establishment of food streets in all the nine towns of the City, the commissioner instructed the authorities concerned to start work on the proposed food streets immediately and without any further delay. However, for establishing food streets, identification of ideal locations is must and for this particular job, suitable sites should be identified within three days while sites for constructing sports grounds must be identified in seven days, he informed the meeting. He advised the officers to consult women sports experts before identification of sites and construction of ladys cricket grounds.
