One labourer burnt to death, others injured

LAHORE One labourer was burnt to death while others suffered multiple burn injuries when fire erupted in a food factory located near Yousuf Park in Shahdara police precincts on Tuesday. The officers of Rescue 1122 and City District Government believed the main cause of fire breakout was short-circuiting. Police investigators said one Raees Ahmed had established a food factory some five years back in street No 5. Here on the day of incident, fire broke out and the articles like ghee, oil and etc caught fire while the labourers present inside the factory were badly stuck into the fire flames. Fire ball had blocked all the exit points/path resultantly one Rashid, a resident of Multan, received severe injuries and died on the spot, a Rescue said. The locals gathered on the spot, however, blamed the Rescue teams and the police concerned approached the site almost one and half an hour late. They said instead of providing first aid to the victims, the police officers of the Shahdara and Factory Area police stations engaged in quarrel on the issue of fixing locality of incident. Earlier, the Rescuers rushed the injured to the Burn Unit of the Mayo Hospital where their condition was told critical till filing of this report. The body of Rashid was handed over to his heirs.
