ISLAMABAD (APP) - Taj Haider, General Secretary of Pakistan Peoples Party Sindh Chapter, on Tuesday said that the superior judiciary must take cognizance of its projected impression as being involved in politics. Talking to this news agency here, the PPP leader said that he had also raised the point in his written reply submitted with the Supreme Court seized with a contempt issue against him. He said, Certain deliberate attempts have been made in the recent past by a section of people, who want to drag the apex court into politics. About holding of strike in Sindh province on March 11 in response to their call against a decision of the apex court on appointment of Justice (r) Syed Deedar Hussain Shah as Chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), he said that it was not aimed at bringing the judiciary into disrepute. He said that the people of Sindh, whose leaders had been victimised through the National Accountability Bureau wanted this institute as impartial and the appointment of Deedar Hussain Shah had strengthened their belief. We want to keep NAB aloof from the politics and wish to see it functioning impartially, he added. He said that holding a protest was their fundamental right and their call for a strike in Sindh was peaceful. It was within limits and no attempt was made to criticize the judiciary. Once a judgement is announced, it becomes a public property, he added. About an ugly incident which claimed a number of lives on that day, he said the sad incidents were not related to the strike call as certain miscreants with nefarious designs tried to take advantage of the situation. About the reference for reopening murder trial of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, he said that the Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had observed that they did the right thing to refer the matter and sought correction of a historic wrong. The veteran PPP leader, while expressing his optimism said, Many facts will be exposed which had been lying buried under a conspiracy.
