LAHORE Punjab Local Government Department has claimed to collect over 30 per cent amount from Taxes on Transfer of Immoveable Property (TTIP) through TMAs during first nine months of the current financial year as compare to the same period of the last financial year. This was disclosed by the Secretary Local Government Punjab Khizar Hayyat Gondal while presiding over a departmental meeting on Tuesday. He said the decision of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif for collection of one per cent TTIP in the province through Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) staff instead of contractors, had given positive results. Almost 48 TMAs have not submitted their details yet and the amount may increase on the receiving of the details from the missing TMAs, he added. The secretary informed the meeting that contractors used to collect TTIP (Tex on Transfer of Immoveable Property) earlier but Punjab CM received a number of complaints regarding the corruption and misappropriation of the contractors. A number of contractors were involved in over-charging and they used to collect tax on market value of the property instead of official value but deposited the amount to the government treasury as per official value and thus were usurping the remaining amount, the secretary maintained.
