Pervez Musharraf’s decision to come back on the eve of elections was a big a blunder. He could have spared his poor country this latest round of agony by staying away. But, like most of his major decisions, his latest decision of returning to Pakistan seems to stem from his megalomania and utter incapability to understand the ground realities. His lawyers, led by Ahmad Raza Kasuri, are playing a dangerous game by involving the army in his crimes. Our judiciary is faced with a very difficult situation. On the one hand it has to adjudicate in a case against a former army chief – something that has never been done before in our country – and prove that nobody is above the law; and, on the other hand, this trial has to be seen as totally free and fair, with no tinge of bias against the former dictator.
