SIALKOT -Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping Kamran Michael enquired after the health of the rape victim at Govt Allama Iqbal Memorial Teaching Hospital on Saturday.

On the occasion, the aggrieved family urged the minister to ensure speedy justice in the case. They alleged that though the Daska police have arrested accused Fakhar Alam alias Phool, but the police were harassing and forcing the Christian girl’s family to patch up with the accused.

Hundreds of the people also gathered in and around the hospital. They strongly protested against the incident and criticised the police for “harassing the grieved family and forcing it for patching up with the accused”, stated to be influential person. The hundreds of Christians staged a sit-in in front of the Govt Allama Iqbal Memorial Teaching Hospital. The PMA chairman led the sit in for about 30 minutes. They lodged their strong protest against the incident and alleged highhandedness of the Daska police.

The protesters were carrying banners and placards, seeking speedy justice to the rape victim and stern legal action against the accused. They alleged that the accused’s companions had threatened to burn the houses of local Christians in village Malleyki-Daska and the surrounding areas, if they refused to patch up with the accused.

The incident occurred on April 20 while the police registered the case after the two days of the incident. The accused had raped the seven-year-old girl in village Malleyki-Daska. Local people gathered there after listening to the hue and cry of the minor girl and the accused managed to escape. The victim’s medical examination had already confirmed rape with her. Her condition was stated to be critical at the hospital.
