I am faced with a quandary. Perhaps someone can help me with it. Like majority of Pakistanis, I also want ex-President Musharraf's (proverbial) head on the platter. Just like any other law-abiding nation where no one stands above the law, Pakistanis should open up investigations into Musharraf's alleged misdeeds. If a genuine cause is found, throw the book at him. But for God's sake, don't give him Get-Out-Of-Jail-Free card (NRO), like he foolishly gave to those who so conveniently got their backs scratched from him but then drove a dagger in his back. Needless to say, it served Musharraf right for signing such a deal. Am I being a hypocrite for not demanding the same for the former ruler what had been proffered to beneficiaries of the NRO? If the champions of constitutionality, like Mr. Zardari and Altaf Hussain can digest the unconstitutional NRO without any debate, what is stopping us from applying the same to other petty thieves, thieves who are rotting in jails for crimes as petty as mobile phone theft? -ADNAN GILL, Los Angeles, via e-mail, August 19.
