NAWABZADA Jamil Akbar Bugti has finally turned to the Sibi Sessions Court to bring to book the killers of his father, the late Nawab Akbar Bugti, who was killed in a military operation in Dear Bugti on 26 August 2006. Among other persons, he wants the former President Pervez Musharraf to be named in the FIR. It is comforting to know that the court has issued notice to the IG police to appear before the court to attend the next hearing. The explanation by Jamil Bugti that since Dera Bugti had been declared a no-go zone for the Bugti clan for the past three years and that this was the reason why no legal action could be taken, seems plausible. It bears pointing out that the filing of the application coincides with the third death anniversary of Nawab Akbar Bugti. Given the hold of the establishment in the province with a perception that the province is being run by intelligence agencies, there are fears that the powers that be will try to thwart the initiative taken by Jamil Bugti. If this happens, it would be detrimental to the unity of the federation besides fuelling more resentment among the Baloch, who view the extra judicial killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti as a proof of the establishment's belligerence against the province. Yesterday, all political and nationalist parties observed a shutter down strike to register their protest over the killing of Nawab Bugti. It is imperative that justice should be allowed to take its course.
