LAHORE - Punjab University teachers have condemned the incidents of wreckage by Islami Jammiat Tilaba in Punjab University and urged the chief minister Punjab to help PU admin establish peaceful academic atmosphere in the campus, spokesman of the varsity said on Wednesday. He informed that a special meeting of the Punjab University Dean Committee was held under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran after the incident to discuss the matter here at New Campus on Wednesday. The committee condemned the incident of firing and torture on students and guards by some IJT activists. The senior teachers expressed their anger and sentiment on the fact that a few wicked activists of IJT with the help of some external elements and expelled students misbehaved with teachers and tortured on students and security guards. The spokesman also told that a two-point resolution was passed on the occasion in which chief minister Punjab was appealed to help university administration in curbing illegal activities of IJT in the varsity. The CM was also urged to give time for meeting to a delegation of PU senior teachers to discuss the issue. It was also said in the resolution that the university teachers were fully aware of the fact that the Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was round the clock busy in resolving problems of the masses; however, this issue was also of much importance and demands his immediate attention. It was also noticed in the meeting that the incidents of illegal and rules violation activities by IJT in the campus were increased during the last one and half month as admissions for session 2009 were under progress during this period. Some teachers showed their angers saying either they should teach the students or physically face wicked activists of IJT because police were not ready to intervene to establish the writ of the varsity administration. It is noteworthy that at night between Sunday and Monday at 12:15am some activists of IJT tortured students and guards after a ceremony at the College of Statistical & Actuarial Sciences. They also made firing on the occasion to harass the students. Later at 2:30 am, these wicked elements illegally pasted posters of their organisation in the English Literature Department and misbehaved with the guards. After that the activists pasted their organisations posters on the walls of Institute of Business Administration (IBA) and Microbiology & Molecular Genetics Department and threatened the guards on duty there. However, later heads of all these departments removed the posters over which these activists threatened the employees and guards with dire consequences. The meeting also lamented that police dont enter the campus premises whenever they are called to arrest these wicked and external elements. The meeting said these only few element of IJT were disturbing the peaceful atmosphere of the campus and were constant pain for over thirty thousand peaceful students and 630 teachers. On the other hand, spokesman of IJT Rehan Tariq said that certain teachers were involved in threatening students and torturing them. He demanded of the Chief Minister Punjab to take notice of the situation and expel such teachers. He said that cases were also registered against two teachers in Old Anarkali police station and action should be taken against these teachers.
