Action against illegal chicken feed factories

OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE Lahore Division Commissioner Jawad Rafiq Malik has directed the District Officer Environment to chalk out an action plan against illegal chicken feed manufacturing factories and operating in the surroundings of Bakar Mandi Slaughter House. Taking notice of encroachments and odour omitting from the factories during burning of bones, which is causing massive nuisance for area residents, the commissioner directed DO Environment Tariq Zaman to prepare action plan within ten days. Addressing a meeting held here on Friday, Mr Malik said that dozens of residents of different localities of Bund Road submitted application against the establishment of such factories which were not only polluting environment but were also spreading different diseases among them. He directed the DO to serve notices to the owners of such illegal factories and take strict action against them and confiscate their machinery and arrest them after registering FIRs against the owners. Town Municipal Officer Iqbal Town Arif Burki told the commissioner that the town administration arrested 20 persons, who were running their business unlawfully in Slaughter House and also registered FIRs against them with Nawan Kot Police Station besides imposing fine of Rs 22000 on them. On the occasion, Mr Malik directed Assistant Commissioner Amna Munir to submit record of genuine land owners and the illegal occupants near Bakar Mandi and Shahpur Kanjran so that legal action could be initiated against them. The meeting was attended by DO Environment, AC City, TMO Iqbal Town, TOR Muhammad Ashraf, Senior Veterinary Officer and in charge of Slaughter House Shakeel Ahmad and police officers concerned.
