Lakki to enroll displaced kids in schools

LAKKI MARWAT - The District Education Department is fully prepared to face the challenge of admitting internally displaced students of North Waziristan Agency in the public sector schools of the district, claimed an official source on Tuesday.
The source said that thousands of displaced tribal people, including men, women and children migrated to the district when Pak army launched operation Zerb-e-Azb against terrorists in the tribal area. "Among them are a large number of school students and now their parents are deeply worried about the education," he said.
The official said that schools would open from Sep 1 at the end of summer vacations and that all-out efforts had been made to ensure that no IDP student deprive of getting education. He revealed that local ESED officials had received special instructions from higher government functionaries to admit IDP students in schools of settled areas.
The source further said that Lakki Marwat ESED district education officer Nazir Khan had also directed the heads of public sector schools to allow admission to the internally displaced students of North Waziristan Agency in their respective institutions without asking for any fee or school leaving certificate.
"The DEO also directed the heads of educational institutions to asses the displaced students on the basis of their age and level of education for admission," he maintained.
He said that action by schools' bosses in this regard would help the IDP students to continue their education without facing any difficulty.
Meanwhile, SDEO Ikramullah Khan has appreciated local police for seizure of free textbooks and arresting a man allegedly involved in the illegal practice of dumping and selling books meant for school students.
Talking to journalists at his office on Tuesday, he said that the elements involved in the ugly practice were the enemies of children and they deserved exemplary punishment.
He said that he had also paid surprise visits to the shops of booksellers in Lakki, Naurang and other towns of the district in last April and May when reports regarding sale of free textbooks in parts of province had emerged.
Appreciating the result-oriented action by police against the sellers of free textbooks, he said the close coordination between ESED and police officials would help bring anti-education elements into the clutches of law. "Besides the close liaison and relationship between both departments will also be helpful for promotion of education in the backward district," he added.
