QUETTA - Proceedings of the Balochistan Assembly were adjourned on Monday due to lack of quorum, as only two out 65 lawmakers attended the scheduled session of the Assembly.

Deputy Speaker Matiullah Agha chaired the session which started 20 minutes late from its scheduled time.

After the recitation of the Holy Quran, only two members, including Provincial Minister Maulana Abdul Samad and Jaffar Khan Mandokhel were present in the House.  Provincial Minister Abdul Samad drew the attention of the Deputy Speaker about lack of quorum. Deputy Speaker adjourned the session for five minutes for completion of quorum but despite it the number of members could not increase ,therefore, chair adjourned the proceedings till December 28th. Deputy Speaker regretted over the attitude of members of the Assembly.

‘This is really regrettable that merely two out of 65 members have arrived to attend the scheduled meeting which reflect the lack of interest of members’, he added.

The total strength of Balochistan Assembly is 65 and 17 members are needed for quorum of the session but due to lack of interest of legislators the sittings of Assembly could not be held.

The presence of members of Balochistan Assembly becomes better when Chief Minister Nawab Muhammad Aslam Khan Raisani attends the session but Chief Minister mostly doesn’t attend the sessions of Assembly ,therefore, most of the members of Assembly don’t give importance to the sessions.
