KHANEWAL - District Police Khanewal on Monday claimed to have smashed two inter-district gangs of robbers by arresting their ringleaders involved in several cases of tractor-theft and auto-lifting. The police have also recovered four tractors and five motorcycles from their possession.

According to a press statement issued from the office of DPO M Waqar Abbasi, the police teams carried out two successful operations in different parts of Khanewal District and two notorious robbers. “We have also recovered four tractors and five motorcycles from their possession. The ringleaders of these gangs been arrested while raids are underway to arrest their accomplices,” Waqar Abbasi said. The ringleader of the first gang was identified as M Iqbal, a resident of Main Channu while M Aslam alias Aslam Musalli was identified as the ringleader of motorcycle-lifting gang.

The DPO said that four tractors worth Rs 2 million and five motorcycles have been recovered while several cases of robberies and fraud have also been traced against the gangsters. About the modus operandi of the gangs, DPO Muhammad Waqar Abbasi said that the gangsters used to deprive the local farmers of their tractors fraudulently. So far, four fraud cases registered in different police stations have also been traced against them.

He further said that the gangsters during preliminary investigations have confessed to their crimes and further investigations are underway. “They are organised criminals. At least eight accomplices of the gangsters have been identified. They are at large but raids are underway to nab them,” he maintained.

The DPO also said that armed patrolling has been intensified in the district while special police pickets have also been set up to check street crimes. He further said that crackdown against robbers and cattle-lifters have also been stepped up.
