QUAIDABAD - The Noorpur Thal Bar Association, Quaidabad Bar Association and Khushab Bar Association ended their 49-day long strike against the police highhandedness, following the acceptance of their demands here the other day.

As per detail, the members of Noorpur Thal Bar Association, Quaidabad Bar and Khushab Bar Association went on strike in the first week of November against the police for trespassing on the chamber of senior Advocate Malik Muhammad Bashir Awan and arresting him for “apparently” no reason.

Though he was released after sometime on the same day on the intervention of the District and Session judge, the police picked him up from his residence in the night again. This highhandedness on the part of the police caused anxiety among the legal fraternity and prompted the Quaidabad Bar Association, Khushab Bar and Noorpur Thal to go on strike in protest.

The strike brought the entire justice dispensation virtually to a halt, leaving the poor litigants to suffer in the district for 49 days. There was no pleading for any case and no bail to any accused. The lawyers community continued strike against the police highhandedness and insult of senior lawyer. They demanded action against the Jouharabad City Police SHO Irfan Safdar Bhurat and DSP Pervaiz Khan for abusing their authority and vilating the sanctity of a lawyer’s chamber. The police had to surrender as Regional Police Officer (RPO) Rao Sardar Ali ordered the arrest of SHO Irfan Safdar Bhurat and transfer of DSP Pervaiz Khan to Sargodha. Following the acceptance of their demands, the lawyers of all the three tehsil bar associations called off their strike after 49 days. The people heaved a sigh of relief as working has began in courts.
