ISLAMABAD  - The Pakistan Railways will soon be able to overcome its deficit and it will restore more trains in future on several sections as locomotives are being rehabilitated on monthly basis. The government had approved project “Special Repair of 150 running locomotives” under PSDP and the Railways was trying to overcome a shortage of locomotives so that more passenger and freight trains could be operated.

Official said purchase of new locomotives was necessary for the revival of Railways, however, the PR administration was struggling to made it profit earning organization.

He said the PR was on its way to improvement and with support of the government and private sector it had been put on a track to success. He said the PR administration was planning to launch more projects in line with the policy of public-private partnership and few sections could soon be privatized.

He hoped that the PR would be able to earn Rs 20 billion per annum by the end of the recent fiscal year after eight months.
