RAWALPINDI – During the ongoing campaign, Rawal Town Municipal Administration (RTMA) on Wednesday sealed seven factories in the city for not adopting fire safety measures in their premises to avoid any untoward incident.

Following the instructions of District Coordination Officer (DCO) Saqib Zafar, the officials of RTMA, Civil Defence, Rescue 1122, Labour Department in collaboration with local police launched action against seven factories and sealed them due to lack of fire safety arrangements.

These factories included Bilal Shopping Bags Factory, Wali Traders Nimko Factory and Tawakal Packages at Hazara Colony; Nazi Gas Stove Factory, Aslam Hosiery and Usman Hosiery at Mohanpura and Mushtaq Sweets at Dhoke Dalal. The operation was supervised by Administrator Rawal Town Saif Anwar Jhappa and Town Officer (TO) Regulations Aftab Ahmed Chohan.

The enforcement team also lodged complaints against the owners of the factories with Police Stations (PSs) City and Pirwadhai and asked the other factories to adopt fire safety measures otherwise their outlets would be closed.

It is pertinent to mention here that that the City District Government Rawalpindi (CDGR) had conducted a survey of the city in November and found more than 190 illegal factories without fire safety measures. The factories are located in the thickly populated residential areas of the city including Khyaban-e-Sir Syed, Bangash Colony, Dhoke Dalal, Bagh Sardaran, Mohanpura and Sadiqabad.
