RAWALPINDI – Acting on the countrywide protest call given by Ahl-e-Sunnat-Wal-Jamat (ASWJ), scores of ASWJ activists on Wednesday agitated at Darul-Aloom Taleem-ul-Quran Raja Bazaar against the murder attempt on the party’s Central Secretary Information Maulana Aurangzeb Farooqi and target killing in Karachi.
The prominent among ASWJ protestors included District President Mufti Tanveer Alam, Mufti Munir Muhavia, Maulana Ghulam Mustafa Baloch, Qari Nisar Ahmed and Maulana Bilal Umer.
Holding placards, banners mentioning words against the government and chanting slogans, the charged activists later took out a protest rally from Fawara Chowk, which culminated at Committee Chowk after marching on Liaquat Road and Benazir Bhutto Road (BBR).
During the entire activity, a gigantic traffic jam was observed on BBR and its linking roads including Mareer Chowk, Moti Mehal, Tipu Road, Iqbal Road, Waris Khan, Chandni Chowk, Commercial Market, 6th Road, Rehmanabad, posing hardships for commuters and pedestrians.
On the occasion, the law enforcement agencies made feeble security arrangements to avoid any untoward incident.
Addressing the protestors, the speakers condemned the murder attempt on Maulana Farooqi and demanded of the government to arrest the assailants involved in the incident immediately.
They said that the terrorists and anti-social elements have been targeting innocent people in Karachi since long but the government and the law enforcers are doing nothing to stop this bloodshed. “Karachi is being given blood bath daily but the government has kept a criminal mum over the issue” they said.
They asked the government to unveil the hands involved behind murder attempt on Maulana or else the ASWJ activists would act upon the strategy announced by their leadership.
